The Decision

Which land?

While the first impetus for a land purchase was deer hunting, what we really were searching for was acreage of enough size and with enough varied features to facilitate a variety of outdoor activities. Our family likes to fish, hunt, watch wildlife, hike, etc.  We set our target on 100 acres or so with woods and water.  We really knew nothing about purchasing undeveloped property, and quite frankly, most of what we have learned, we learned after the purchase!

After perusing the typical websites and realty ads, we stumbled upon a listing for about 135 acres that included two parcels; ~100 ac undeveloped and ~35 ac of farm land.  We asked the owners if they would split off the 35 ac (they did), and we purchased the undeveloped.  It surveyed out to be about 98 ac that included higher ground timber,  a 5 ac spring fed millpond with a dam, some bottom land with flooded timber (courtesy of beavers), and a portion of a blackwater stream with cypress trees. A true biology/ecosystem playground.  We are now landowners!

Interestingly enough we have subsequently purchased the other 35 ac parcel but that is another story.
